B'Nei Mitzvah Resources
Consecration
It is a ceremony used in Reform congregations to mark the beginning of formal Jewish education, usually with K or 1st grade. It is a group ceremony often celebrated on Simchat Torah, and usually the young participants are given a small replica of a torah (can you read 4-point type?) to symbolize the start of their study of torah. Consecration is not based on traditional rituals, and is not observed in Orthodox congregations. Some Conservative congregations do observe the ceremony. They either call it "consecration", or opt for the more Jewish-sounding names.
Confirmation

Confirmation is more than just a ceremony, it is an opportunity to take a deeper and more mature look at Judaism.  Our hope is that it will lead students to want to publicly confirm their commitment to Judaism.  We have several unique experiences that will make Confirmation year powerful and memorable.

These classes unlock some of the values and ideas that have made Judaism powerful and influential and revered.  Entrance into this class is achieved by completion of the two preceding years of study in our Gesher Program, or "Bridging Program".  In addition, students must also have regular attendance at Sabbath services during the year.

Our Confirmation Service takes place on the festival of Shavuot where our young men and women publicly take their place among the adult Jewish community.  They affirm their loyalty to God, Torah, and the responsibilities to the Jewish community.  It is more than a celebration; it is a moment of transformation.
